Event Description:
Register for the fourth quarter meeting of the Arkansas Trucking Association Accounting & Finance Council on December 1 at 10:30 am at ABF Freight located at 3801 Old Greenwood Rd, Fort Smith, AR.
Participants will
  • receive an economic update
  • discuss the economic outlook for the trucking industry
  • discuss best practices for billing, collecting, purchasing
  • discuss ways to improve back office efficiencies and cash flow
  • learn about the Arkansas Independent Tax Appeals Commission
Participants will earn 2.0 CPE credits. In order to be awarded the full credit hours, you must be present, register your attendance and departure on provided attendance sheets at registration desk.

Session 1: Economic Update
 
(CPE Economics - 1 credit)
Presented by Emily Clayton, Economic Analyst, American Trucking Associations
Emily Clayton is an economic analyst with American Trucking Associations, the leading trade association for the trucking industry, reporting directly to Chief Economist Bob Costello. Since joining ATA, Emily has worked on macroeconomic issues impacting the trucking industry, as well as industry research activities. Clayton graduated from American University with a master's degree in applied economics.

 

Session 2: Cash Flow Management
(CPE Management Services - 1 credit)

Presented by Zack King, former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, USA Truck
Zack King most recently served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of USA Truck from April 2020 until their recent merger with DB Schenker in September of 2022. Prior to being promoted to CFO at USA Truck, he served in a variety of finance leadership roles from 2015-2020. Preceding his time at USA Truck, King worked in a variety of industries primarily helping companies navigate through transformative events including strategic acquisitions and integrations, private equity acquisitions, turnarounds and IPOs.
Session 3: Arkansas Independent Tax Appeals Commission
Presented by Matt Boch and Joe Sanford, Commissioners, Arkansas Independent Tax Appeals Commission
Matt Boch is a commissioner of the Arkansas Tax Appeals Commission. As one of the founding commissioners, Boch is currently working to set up the commission, and it will soon begin adjudicating disputes over state taxes. Boch previously was a partner at Wright Lindsey Jennings and Dover Dixon Horne in Little Rock and before that McDermott Will & Emery in Chicago. In private practice, Boch advised and represented taxpayers in state and local tax matters, and assisted businesses with economic development projects growing jobs and investment in Arkansas.

Prior to establishing Sanford & Company, CPAs in 1988, Joe was audit manager in a large Fort Smith CPA firm.  While involved in all aspects of the firm, he focused his efforts on estate planning, litigation support, management consulting and technology consulting.  During his career, Joe served as a Director of the ARCPA, Chair of the ARCPA Ethics Committee, Continuing Education Committee, and Peer Review Committee, and as a member of the ARCPA Legislative Committee.  He was president of the Western Arkansas Estate Planning Council and the Western Arkansas Chapter of the ARCPA.  
Joe also frequently served as a moderator for various tax, accounting, technology, and ethics continuing education seminars for CPAs, and was named ARCPA Discussion Leader of the Year for 2012 and 2017.  Joe retired from public accounting in 2021 after a 45-year career in public accounting.  Soon thereafter, Joe was appointed a commissioner for the newly-created Arkansas Tax Appeal Commission

 


Arkansas Trucking Association is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.   • For ATA members who submit their meeting registration by the deadline and attend the meeting, there is no fee.
  • ATA members who attend without registering or register but do not attend will be charged $25.
  • Out of courtesy, if you decide to attend after the registration deadline, please contact the ATA office.
  • ATA welcomes guests and non-members to Council meetings for $50.
