Session 1:
Cybersecurity Best Practices
(CPE Information Technology - 1 credit)
Presented by Heather Hughes, J.D., Vice President, Stroz Friedberg of Aon
This presentation will cover cybersecurity best practices for the transportation industry. Recent cyber-attacks will be discussed including ransomware, business email compromise and how threat actors gain and maintain access into systems with sensitive information. The costs of a cyber-attack and whether to pay or not pay ransom demands will be covered as well as proactive measures that can reduce the risk of a cyber-attack. The cyber insurance market and new minimum cybersecurity controls that are required to obtain or renew cyber insurance will also be discussed.
Heather Hughes, J.D. is a Vice President for Stroz Friedberg's Houston office where she leads a wide variety of engagements, including data breach/incident response matters, complex digital forensics investigations, proactive security risk assessments, and cyber due diligence investigations. Since joining Stroz Friedberg in 2018, Heather has led and managed some of the firm's most complex incident response engagements, including the largest healthcare ransomware event in U.S. history which was perpetrated by threat actors during the COVID pandemic. Heather has also managed the ransomware response engagements involving the shutdown of operations of a national food supplier, manufacturing plant and several energy producers. She regularly works with outside counsel to assist clients with regulatory inquiries as a result of the theft of data by organized cyber criminals.

Regulatory Update: The Corporate Transparency Act

In this session, Kole Kennemer will provide an overview of the Corporate Transparency Act. Originally enacted in 2021, the act continues to evolve with new changes effective January 1, 2024. Kennemer will discuss the details of the act, its filing requirements, implications for business and steps required to avoid steep fines.
Kole Kennemer is an experienced executive in operations and finance. His experience and successes include roles such as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director, and Business Consultant across many industries. Kennemer is passionate in supporting the hard-working men and women across our country earn and keep their money, and has been in the trucking industry since 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, and Management from Oklahoma State University, and has additional experience within the United States House of Representatives, where he gained insights into tax laws and legislative processes. Kennemer's work ethic, business acumen, and commitment to excellence allows him to bring value to the companies and clients he serves.
