When trucks are moving\, goods are being sold and shipped. Bob Costello\, chief economist and senior vice president of international trade policy and cross-border operations for the American Trucking Associations\, will share what he sees on the horizon for the trucking industry and the American economy. \n\n\n\nBob Costello is the chief economist and senior vice president of international trade policy and cross-border operations for the American Trucking Associations (ATA)\, the national trade association for the trucking industry. As chief economist\, he manages all of ATA's collection\, analysis and dissemination of trucking economic information. This includes several monthly trucking economic indicators\, motor carrier financial and operating data\, an annual freight transportation forecast\, driver wage studies\, weekly diesel fuel price and economic reports\, and a yearly trucking almanac. He also conducts economic analyses of proposed regulations and legislation affecting the trucking industry.\n\n\n\nCostello heads up ATA's International Trade Policy and Cross Border Operations Department. In this capacity\, he works on issues related NAFTA/USMCA\, tariffs\, customs\, and immigration.\n\n\n\nCostello is often cited in the news media as an expert on trucking economics\, including the Wall Street Journal\, Business Week\, CNBC\, FOX Business Channel\, and National Public Radio.\n\n\n\nCostello currently serves on the American Transportation Research Institute's Research Advisory Committee. He is on the Board of Directors for the Border Trade Alliance. He is also a member of the National Association for Business Economics and has served on several research and project panels for the Transportation Research Board\, which is part of the National Academies. He is also a member of the Industrial Economists Group at Harvard University.\n\n\n\nSession 2: Employee Retention Credit Update (CARES Act)\n\nPresented by Brian Bauml and Richard Cazzell\n\nSynergi Partners\n\n(CPE Specialized Knowledge - 1 credit)\n\n \n\nThe team at Synergi Partners will breakdown the CARES Act Employee Retention Credit (ERC) benefits that businesses are now eligible for through the relief packages signed in December 2020 (Consolidated Appropriations Act) and in March 2021 (American Rescue Plan Act). They will explain the purpose of the ERC\, the qualifications and what makes trucking firms eligible for the credit.\n\n\n\nBrian Bauml\, is national sales manager for Synergi Partners\, the largest privately owned tax credit and business incentives company in the US. With over 15 years of experience helping large and small businesses leverage these government sponsored financial opportunities\, he now specializes in the Employee Retention Credit\, helping businesses understand the complexities of the legislation with the end goal of program qualification and refund calculation.\n\nBrian graduated from Texas A&M University\, is married\, has two adult children and lives in San Antonio with his two rescue dogs\, Paco and Pippa.\n\n \n\nRichard Cazzell\, is a Discovery Session Manager for Synergi Partners. In this position he is in contact with firms that appear to be eligible for the ERC opportunity\, and schedules 30-minute Zoom meetings with a tax consultant who can determine the certainty of qualification.\n\nRichard holds a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Arkansas.
